Carbon Finance
When the costs associated with developing a carbon project are prohibitively high for project proponents, we offer carbon financing solutions. For projects that offer a unique opportunity or where the project proponent has built quality rapport with the Palmetto group, we are willing to finance projects. We are able to finance the development of the carbon asset, including the project development document, validation, registration and ongoing monitoring and verification costs. In exchange for the financing, we aim to participate in the carbon credits generated from the project. We then collaborate with the project proponent in marketing and selling the carbon credits.

Green Energy & Carbon Development
Being a leading developer of carbon emission reduction projects that were introduced under the Kyoto protocol, we have vast experience in the financial structuring and technical delivery of projects across renewable, waste recovery, energy efficiency, coal mine, and biomass technologies. We work with companies to develop carbon projects in China, Africa, North America, South East Asia and Europe, structuring each project to maximise the sale and delivery of emission reductions to compliance and voluntary buyers.
In the emission reduction governing schemes we work with, Palmetto’s typical role is to evaluate project feasibility (leveraging existing or newly-created methodologies) and to usher the project through the respective governing schemes. We have experience working with the following frameworks:
Our Carbon Asset Development department has expertise in the entire carbon credit project cycle, starting with the identification and assessment of a project’s emission reduction potential.
We guide you through the registration process under the following frameworks – Climate Action Reserve, Voluntary Carbon Standard, and Kyoto Protocol. Specifically, we assist with documentation, facilitate certification under regulated standards, and verification under voluntary market standards.

Carbon Finance
The Carbon Finance division has made investments in China, India, South East Asia, Africa, and the US. Transaction types include equity and debt investment, upfront financing through carbon purchase agreements, and pay-on-delivery carbon purchases. Many transactions operate under the Kyoto Protocol’s Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) as the catalyst for investment in clean energy and emission reductions.
However, as markets are emerging at a regional level, we are now also working with Climate Action Reserve and Voluntary Carbon Standard.
Frequently, we will finance carbon projects either on balance sheet or via a managed investment vehicle. We are most interested in financing compliant carbon emission reduction projects for compliant schemes such as those in the United States, Europe, Australia and New Zealand.
Within these markets, the Carbon Finance division works with proven technology providers to develop carbon projects and build a substantial portfolio of emission reduction credits.
The team focuses on carbon investments in the following sectors: coal mine methane; industrial energy efficiency (iron & steel, cement); destruction of industrial gases; renewable energy (wind, hydro, landfill gas); leaky gas pipes, forestry and agricultural waste.
